An Inside Look at the Community Center of St. Bernard
The Community Center of St Bernard is a grassroots nonprofit organization that serves survivors of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in St Bernard Parish, Louisiana, and the surrounding area. The Community Center's efforts are focused on empowering families who want to rebuild their lives after Hurricane Katrina by providing them with direct local access to the factual information and practical resources they need in a safe and all-inclusive setting.
Having worked with the Community St. Bernard for several months, I have seen first hand the work they are doing on the ground. Originally established as a disaster-recovery agency after Hurricane Katrina, the Community Center has continued to adapt to meet the needs of local residents, who are now greatly impacted by the BP Oil Spill.
